Camping Schiermonnikoog
Camping on a farm on Schiermonnikoog. No luxury resort, no rows of tents on a tarmac field. Just a campsite With 25 pitches, right next to a working dairy farm, on the edge of the meadows on the eastern side of the island. During the day, the farmyard is a hive of activity, with other guests staying in the group accommodation, holiday homes and tents. At night it gets really dark, and in the morning you’re woken by the birds.
De Oorsprong is a functioning dairy farming with cows and calves. There are also larger animals in the yard groups and school camps, and staying in the two holiday homes next to the farm families and families. So you’ll be camping right in the thick of it, in a courtyard where there’s always something going on.

Camping on a farm. What can you expect?
The campsite is situated about 75 metres from the group accommodation. The toilet block, which offers free hot showers, toilets, a laundry area and a fully equipped campsite kitchen, is located nearby on the site. The kitchen is fully equipped with a hob, fridge and all the crockery you’ll need. There are power points in every corner of the pitch, and there’s good Wi-Fi coverage.
There are two long picnic tables in the middle of the campsite. You can use them for breakfast or simply to have a chat with other guests.
Children can run about freely, pop into the barn to see the cows and never tire of playing on the playground, the trampoline and in the sandpit. Dogs are welcome at the campsite, provided they are kept on a lead.
Fresh from the farm
As you’re staying on a working farm, fresh milk is available every day. There’s also homemade yoghurt and custard, as well as fresh eggs from our own hens. You’re always welcome to pop into the dairy barn to have a look around and ask the farmer any questions you might have.
For the children, there’s more than just the livestock. There’s a pen with two Flemish Giants to cuddle to your heart’s content, and a goat that just pops round to say hello.
The island as seen from the farm
You can hop straight on your bike from the farm. It’s a ten-minute ride to the village, a quarter of an hour to the widest beach in Europe, and you’ll soon be cycling into the Oosterkwelder, the quietest part of the island where you’ll hardly see a soul. The Wadden Sea has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2009.
’In the evening, it grows quiet. No traffic, no light pollution, just the sound of the sea behind the dyke.
If you really want to get to know the island, go on a mudflat walk from Schiermonnikoog. A few hours’ walk across the exposed Wadden Sea, with a guide who’ll show you what’s living beneath your feet.
Our fully equipped tents
Don’t have your own tent? There are ten fully kitted-out tents ready and waiting at the campsite.
For couples, there are six ‘Duintentjes’ for two people: Helmet grass, Sea buckthorn, Sea milk thistle, Glasswort, Sea Balm and Lamb's ear. Compact and atmospheric, all named after plants that can be found in the surrounding dunes.
For families, there are four De Waard family tents, each sleeping four people: Sternduin, Dune, Kobbeduin and Willemsduin. More than spacious enough to live in, with beds, a fully fitted kitchen unit and an outdoor lounge set.
All you need to bring is your clothes. Everything else is ready and waiting.
